The arrival of the Spanish in the 1500s, led by figures like Hernán Cortés, marked a significant turning point. The Baja California Peninsula became a key stop on one of the world’s most important trade routes. This era wasn’t without conflict, as the region saw decades of attacks from English and Dutch pirates before a permanent Spanish settlement was established in 1697.
Later, the 1840s brought conflicts between the United States and Mexico. Ultimately, the U.S. conceded the beautiful Baja Peninsula to Mexico, restoring tranquility and prosperity to the stunning coastal area. Over time, Cabo San Lucas grew into a renowned fishing spot, and that reputation slowly transformed it into a coveted tourist destination.
